Synopsis: The Tank presents the premiere of The End of the Known World Plays, a tandem of two one-act plays, Juicy and Delicious by Lucy Alibar and The Bird Stories by James Ryan Caldwell. The following description is from the show's press release: "Sharing a single company of actors, raw stagecraft, and a gleefully black-tinged absurdism, the plays are two fairytales about coming of age and growing out of place in surreal locales: the Midwest and the rural South. In Juicy and Delicious, we are transported to a rural South besieged by prehistoric aurochs, things fall from the sky, extinct prehistoric beasts come back to life and eat the neighbors' livestock, and ghosts live alongside the living. Here, nobody knows how to use words to express themselves, and punches and kisses come all at once. Love, violence, tenderness, loss, and the 'end of the known world, when we graduate' are woven together ecstatically. The Bird Stories imagines a deeply religious Midwest shaken by the birth of a vengeful bird Messiah. It is an epic and irreverent chronicle of one boy's journey to self-discovery. In order to protect the boy he loves, Meigh (pronounced 'me') must battle his family, the birds and even himself." nytheatre.com | ||||
