Robbie Byrne is an ex Scots Guards soldier and musician and was once one of the pipers who performed for the Queen of England during state visits to Buckingham Palace in London. He won BBC Playwright of the year for his stage play, Night-Swimming and Musician of the year award for Kern County. He has also published three novels: Mulligan's Pennies, Night-Swimming, and Smile, all available in book stores or through www.amazon.com. He is married and now resides in Bakersfield, California.

Night-Swimming

Synopsis:
MaRY JENKINS, in her youth used to swim naked on the beach at night with her boyfriend, (and future husband) PHIL. PHIL, in later life, develops Parkinson's Disease, with overlapping symptoms of alzheimer's and, from being the head of the house, now becomes dependent on MaRY. With the after effects of drugs, bumping into furniture, loss of memory and general deterioration of her husband, MaRY becomes worried about his long term welfare. Her daughter, CaROL tries to help but PHIL won't allow it. PHIL tries to explain to his grandson, JOHNNY, about his illness. JOHNNY helps PHIL realise that there is a vast difference between childhood innocence and adult ignorance But to PHIL there is only one way out. He wanders towards the beach. Mary discovers him and they go together to their sandhill, their moon, dancing shadows, and night-swimming. . . NOTE: Love between two people can work on many levels. Mary and Phil were deeply in love, a very deeper level of closeness than the majority of people. The ultimate question is: Would either a man or woman, so much in love sacrifice their partner's existence to help allievate their extreme pain?

What is the greatest sacrifice A human being can do for Another in the name of love? How do two people react when they Are forced to undergo the ultimate test of their deep love for each other: the decision between life And death.
