David James Brock is a playwright, poet, and librettist whose plays and operas have been performed in cities across Canada and the UK. He is the winner of the 2011 Herman Voaden Canadian National Playwriting Award. Brock penned the libretto for The Sloans Project (composer: Gareth Williams), which was most recently performed at the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Festival (previous: Glasgows 2011 Merchant City Festival, Tapestry New Operas 2011/2012 season). Other highlights include libretto for Sewing the Earthworm for the Canadian Art Song Project (Toronto, 2011. Composer: Brian Harman) and Pretty Boy for the Paul Dresher Ensemble (San Francisco, 2012. Composer: Jack Perla). Brocks debut poetry collection, Everyone is CO2, was released by publisher Wolsak & Wynn in spring 2014. He is currently working with Scottish Opera on Breath Cycle, a multimedia operatic song cycle developed with cystic fibrosis patients. He lives in Toronto and can be found on

Centre of the Universe

Synopsis:
The CN Tower has collapsed after an organized attack on Toronto. Four people who were in a bar when the attack happened have been cut off from the rest of the world. The last communication they received: stay indoors. Wondering who would attack the cityand whyfour people contemplate survival, sex, death, and the lives they no longer have.

Snow Bride

Synopsis:
No one shows up for Helenas bachelorette party, so she invites the only friend she has left: cocaine. Alone on the night before her wedding, she reflects on her past and toasts to a new life. She wants to be different after tomorrow. Helena hopes for an intervention, but maybe its too late.

Synopsis:
She goes to war, and he stays home. When she returns with an injury, she cant be touched. She wont be touched. If he could just touch her. But she is dry, and he is wet. Unannounced, Captain Tom Fitzgerald arrives. Tom once saved her life but now disrupts it. Tom has PTSD. Tom loves porn. And Tom loves war.
