Julie Bovasso was born August 1, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of Bernard Michael (a teamster) and Angela Mary (Padovani) Bovasso; one brother, Bernard X Bovasso. She attended City College (now City College of the City University of New York), 1948-51; was married twice: first to George Ortman (an artist), February 4, 1951 (divorced); and once again to Leonard Wayland (an actor), August 12, 1959 (divorced). In 1953 Julie founded the Tempo Playhouse (experimental theater), at 4 St. Marks Place in ( the village ) NYC, serving as manager and actress appearing as Margot, "The Typewriter," the same year, Madeline in "Amedee" by Ionesco in 1954. Then Claire, in "The Maids," 1955, which earned Julie an OBIE; 1956, triple award for writing, directing, and acting, 1969, for "Gloria and Esperanza". She died of cancer on September 14, 1991, in New York (Manhattan), New York.
