Rita Taylor panics and ends up in a plastic surgeon's office; caught in the middle of 'regulars' who insist on being 'first in line' in an ever increasing queue to see the surgeon. The doctor's nurse fights valiantly to maintain calm in the midst of people who demand their right to alter their appearance, or not. In her panic, Rita has dragged Spud, her childhood puppet, out of some long forgotten place. She places him over her hand to hide the ugly truth. In the waiting room they encounter two women, Helen and Mrs. Bilinsky, who compete with each other through cosmetic surgery; Simon, a rhinology patient who slowly unravels, admitting his true desire; Tanya, a saleswoman with a very peculiar approach to the disposal business; and Frank, a salesman with his own interesting brand of products.
