On his very first case - to the horror of his wife, Karen, and his two crazy neighbors, Suzy and Stan - the Flemming living room begins to fill up with dead bodies. Karen is further annoyed when one of them turns out to be her father. Even though Henry keeps showing up at home every day more disheveled and beaten up, he couldn't be happier. Henry is convinced he's found his life's work and Westport, Connecticut is safer for it. The play is a spoof of the film noir thrillers from the 40's and 50's.

Aunt Martha's choice is Brandon Cates, a young man who handles her finances. Although Brandon is already engaged to be married, this does not deter Aunt Martha. After being bopped on the head a few times, having a temporary loss of memory and experiencing several instances of mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and a confrontation with a very angry fiancé, Brandon slowly comes to realize that Sara is really the girl for him.

He tells Norman that his mother, Beatrice, has run off with his uncle, Julius, and that he has come to stay whilst getting over the shock. Norman persuades Garson to move out whilst he father is in New York. Ben is aghast at finding out his son is gay and he takes an instant dislike to Garson. He tries to split them up. Then he tries to "straighten" Norman by hiring Mary a prostitute. Norman is so angry he leaves. Garson decides not to stay away whilst Ben is in the apartment and returns making up a bed on the couch for Ben. During the next few days they continue to "snipe" at each other and wondering when Norman will come back. Ben hires Mary again so that this time she can "straighten" Garson. Whilst she is getting ready in the bedroom, Beatrice arrives. She has had enough of Julius' and has come to stay with her son. Ben tells her that Norman is gay and living with another man. Beatrice says that she will not be returning to Ben. When Mary comes out of the bedroom Beatrice thinks that she is Norman. Norman returns and says that he has enlisted in the Navy for three years. Beatrice agrees to return home as long as Garson comes too. The two parents start to conspire - they will try and get Garson off with the gay son of an acquaintance and keep a look out for a nice professional - doctor or dentist for Norman.
