JOE BASQUE is a native of Omaha, Nebraska. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and earned his law degree at Southern Methodist University before returning to Omaha to practice law. Twenty years of litigaiton has taught him the finer points of fiction writing, which he has applied in numerous one acts, monologues and two full length plays. PING PONG DIPLOMACY was first produced at the Shelterbelt Theatre in Omaha in 2005. It won a Theatre Arts Guild Award for Outstanding New Script and was a finalist for Outstanding Drama Production. It was produced by Reverie Productions at the 59E59 Theaters in New York in 2006. Theatermania.com called it "excellent" and Curtainup.com described it as "funny and touching." Backstage.com proclaimed it "warm, wise, witty  Joe Basque's Ping Pong Diplomacy is very special." His full length play DEFENDING MARRIAGE, a drama about gay marriage, was produced by the Shelterbelt Theatre in 2006. The Omaha World Herald lauded the play for its "charater driven comedy, powerful human drama and themes that are at one timely and timeless in their social relevance." It won a Theatre Arts Guild Award for Outstanding New Script and was a finalist for Outstanding Drama Production. It was one of five finalists for the Reverie Productions 2007 Next Generation Playwriting Contest and recieved a reading at the 2008 Great Plains Theater Conference in Omaha. His upcoming full length, THE BATTLE OF BATTLES, will receive its first public reading this October.
