HARRY MICHAEL BAGDASIAN founded and led Washington, DC's New Playwrights' Theatre (NPT) for twelve years. With Joselovitz, he has written a romantic comedy, "Love By The Numbers" (published by Samuel French 1995) and three plays for young audiences: "Journey To The World's Edge, a folk tale in the Irish tradition," "Capture The Moon" (small & large cast versions) and "Riddle Me A Prince," which had music and lyrics by Lenny Williams and Bari Biern. All have been produced by different theatres around the country. Singularly, and with co-author Lisa Levin Itte, Bagdasian has written many comedy reviews for young audiences which have been published and have received over 2,800 productions across the US and Canada and abroad. His other plays have received productions at the New England Actor's Theatre, Source Theatre and New Playwrights' Theatre. Harry also runs a fabulous web site about his work with young writers - check it out. www.ourlaughingmatters.com

A long time ago, before street lights were invented, the people in a Jewish shtetl were too poor to have lanterns to light their way around their village on moonless Sabbath nights. So what do they do? They come up with imaginative ways to capture the full moon! Based on Jewish folktales, and laced with Jewish irony and wit, this funny new play for young audiences takes a light-hearted look at what it's like to be different. It's also a celebration of simple wisdom, tolerance and how every one of us is unique.

Synopsis:

A play about young Brigid Shawn O'Grady of long-ago County Clare who is shunned and mocked for her misshapen foot. She is isolated until one day she leaves home, and, with the help of the legendary Sea Mither, sets off for the well at the world's edge and a sage who will supposedly answer her plea. Along the way, she must pass three tests - including facing a dangerous bog serpent. Steeped in Irish culture and legends, the story relates a journey of self discovery and courage. The play offers great opportunities for many players to work as an ensemble in an old-fashioned story circle to tell and enact this uplifting tale.

part of the Comedy Revue "Funny You Should Ask". One-act satire of kiddies TV show . Script premiered, but never offered to our publisher due to the fact that he dropped the first "telebuddies" script. So - scripts available eMail me!

Synopsis:

A one-act sequel to "The Altos Meet The Telebuddies" - THE STORY: Things are tough in Telebuddyland. Bennie keeps gettin "whacked" by "the Hammer" which is, literally a giant hammer that strikes from the wings. When the play opens it is Boli Cannolli's birthday, and everyone knows that a Telebuddy cannot refuse a request asked of him on his birthday. Bennie asks Boli Cannolli and the other Telebuddies to "take out" "the hammer". Plans are hatched - via an acapella rap number - and then carried out. But "the hammer" turns out to be operated by that "wizard kid" from England. But Telebuddies have no power over wizards. Is all lost? No. The Telebuddies call in reinforcements . . . GI Joe and Barbie who "take care of him" and the kid is toast. Why do they do it? Joe and Barbie had to take out Harry Potter - he was encroaching on their merchandizing shelf space in toy stores. It's all about merchandising, isn't it? The victory is celebrated by a big acapella rap number by Babs, Joe and the Telebuddies.
