Synopsis: A classic story of the generation gap between a famous Establishment father, Lord Chesterfield (former statesman, now retired), and his illegitimate son, Philip. Lord Chesterfield intrigues to have Philip made an ambassador, but Philip manages to sabotage these arrangements; risking disinheritance, he becomes his own man. Ultimately, because the father and son are both civilised and loving, the gap between them is bridged with humour and poignancy. A contemporary play in the tradition of English high comedy.
