David Allyn began writing plays at Georgetown Day School and continued at Brown University and Harvard University. His play Baptizing Adam, which won the James H. Wilson Award for Best-Full Length Play from the Deep South Writers Conference, was produced in New York in 2002; Writers Colony was the highest-grossing play in the 2009 Fresh Fruit Festival in New York in 2009. Commencement was developed through the Pulse Ensemble Theatre Lab and the Woodstock Fringe Playwrights Unit and was selected for a reading at the 2010 Baltimore Playwrights Festival.
