Bob's first play lasted only five minutes but it won him an Alan Ayckbourn prize for short, short plays in 1989. Thus encouraged he wrote his first full length play, Scrappy. The original cast included John Cairney and Russell Hunter at the Netherbow Theatre in Edinburgh. His next play Bannock the Baker had as its theme a hostile take-over of a small business. The play was presented at the 1993 Scottish Students Drama Festival. Hebden, which followed, was a play about cloning before this became a fashionable subject. It received an excellent response when presented at the Edinburgh International Science Festival. All three were directed by Rachel Hammerton. He followed this with Coming Apart - a comedy with feeling set in a hospital ward. It received excellent notices on its production by Annexe Theatre and was given a six-week tour around Scotland backed by the Scottish Arts Council. Colin Donald, theatre critic of The Scotsman mentioned Coming Apart in his article about the best Scottish plays of 1995. He has written several one act plays. Aberdeen Angus was performed professionally to full houses at the Netherbow Theatre in 2002. Bob is a former Scottish Chairman of the Writers' Guild of Great Britain. He was awarded an OBE in 1980.

| Lovers of the Doric are in for a treat this week when a touring theatre company brings a play to their doorstep. The Splinters Theatre Company will be at Aboyne and New Deer with a drama called The Roup by Bob Adams. The story line is bitter sweet. For the old couple selling up the day of the roup is a sad one however, there is also plenty of fun - and a bit of love interest. | |||||
