Synopsis: | Jeremiah was written in the evenings after Wojtyla had spent his days as a laborer in the quarries. The play combines an idealistic view of Poland's role in history, as introduced by Adam Mickiewicz and other 19th century romantic poets, with a realistic look at the actions and events that led to the country's captivity. Featuring his protagonist, Father Piotr Skarga, Wojtyla mixes elements of the Old Testament with 16th century Polish History to create a truly national drama.

Synopsis: | Set in Warsaw during the Uprising of 1944-the grim 63-day struggle that ended with the German Army razing the Capital City to the ground-the story unfolds as the Polish Home Army enters a ruined church after curfew to stage an underground production of Wojtyla's play. They risk their lives to perform this play as both a 'prayer and a protest' to their five years of occupation.
