Synopsis:
The planning committee for the Church fete meet one January evening. It all seems to be a straightforward event but as the evening progresses all sorts of things that have been bellow the surface rise. The vicar has lost his faith and is now a drunk. Sally had arrived home to find her husband spanking a strange woman. Gloria is at her wits end caring for a demanding old mother and holding down a job. New to the committee is Angela the new infant school teacher - who has alarmed some of the other women by accepting a lift with village tearaway Raymond. Marjorie arrives a pays a lot of attention to Angela. Angela mistakes Majorie's partner Jack for a man. At the end of the meeting Marjorie takes Angela home and the Vicar ends up in a passionate clinch with Sally. On the day of the fete everything seems to go wrong. The bouncy castle starts defating, the floats get stuck, the wrong prizes are taken for the childrens bran-tub dip. The vicar has ended his affair with Sally but has been reported to the Bishop. Angela has ended her affair with Marjorie and informs Marjorie that she is pregnant by Raymond. There is much coming and going and further mishaps - but by the end of the play, Angela is knocked down in a fight and in her distress it is Marjorie she wants. Sally and her husband leave the village for Scotland. Gloria confesses that she killed her mother when things got too much The Vicar's wife, Pauline says that she will stand by him when the Bishop calls.
