It also involves hallucinations and the ambivalence of the human personality; and since it its Russian it swings violently from love to hatred, both of which are described with turbulent emotions. . . In literal terms, THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV is a complex, baffling crime story with what we might call Kafka overtones today. What makes it great, however, are the questions it asks about good and evil, guilt and innocence, religion and atheism.
