| Synopsis: | ALWAYS & FOREVER follows Alma, a teenage girl from Bell Gardens CA, who is determined to have local corrido-singing heartthrob Adán Sánchez perform at her quinceañera. Alma's journey into womanhood gets complicated when she prays to the Virgin Mary for guidance, but accidentally conjures Jesús Malverde, the narco-saint. The play explores Mexican-American culture, local landmarks, sexuality, and the effects of the war in Iraq. Add a dash of Morrissey, a crash-course in the music of Northwestern Mexico, and a '56 Chevy (driven by a uniquely spiritual vato with a student revolutionary at his side) - and you have the beginning of a ride that is far from ordinary. ALWAYS & FOREVER ". . .has a truly authentic voice, dripping in Los Angeles Latin youth culture" (Angela Garcia Combs, LA Stage Magazine). Music, memory and magic realism collide to reveal a story that is sometimes tragic, sometimes humorous, but always unquestionably Los Angeles. | |||||
