Notes: | Winner of the 2007 Robert C. Hayes playwriting competition. There are eight characters, but the Butler and Doctor can also play (Wild) Beavers I and II. Although the script is written as if the Velveteen Beaver is male, the premiere production was very successfully done with a female in the role. | |||||
Synopsis: | The Velveteen Beaver is a retelling of The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams. Stuffed toys are everywhere in Sophie's bedroom, but one toy in particular, the Velveteen Beaver, wants to be a real beaver, with a real flat tail instead of a label. However, Aunt Hattie would just as soon throw out a dirty stuffie after being around a sick Sophie. Join the musical adventures of a toy beaver and his friend the Rocking Moose as he attempts to "get real". | |||||
