Synopsis: | A famous musician, discovering that he is dying of an incurable illness, has to come to terms simultaneously with his present and past. Ludwig Zelman is a man driven both by pride in his work, and shame for a past he feels he can never undo. In his personal crisis he must find a way to deal with the death he foresees with the fortitude that might provide comfort to his young wife and son, and yet avoid seeing his acceptance as a way of 'surrendering' to the inevitable. In the process, Zelman discovers that he can 'atone' both in his relationship with a long-dead father who was a victim of Nazi prosecution and a very-much-alive son, through his own understanding of his life and art. | |||||
