Synopsis: | What is it about the seaside that brings out the most unusual in people? Wales' leading exponent of contemporary performance and installation, Marc Rees, is bringing together a group of artists from around the world to create a multi sensory journey through a quirky Welsh seaside town. Barmouth's location on the west coast of Wales and lying between a mountain range and the sea on the mouth of the river Mawddach makes it arguably one of the most beautiful places in Wales. It rests just within the south west corner of Snowdonia National Park, and is steeped in a history rich with connections to the shipping and slate industries. However, as with so many similar seaside towns, over the summer months an influx of tourists from the Midlands and the North-West give way to a winter of harder times in Barmouth. Chapels on the main street have become Pound Shops', with cash registers in the pulpit and giant inflatable crocodiles hanging from the church organ. Making their base in one such chapel, Marc Rees' performers will take people on very unusual and unexpected guided tours of the town.

Synopsis: | Henry Cyril Paget, the fifth Marquess of Anglesey, bankrupted himself despite an annual income of £8m in today's money. He did so by frittering it on beautiful fripperies and useless extravagances - he even modified his car so the exhaust sprayed perfume - and was known as the Dancing Marquess. This is the detail that performance artist Marc Rees focuses on in this arresting and at times thrillingly sensual combination of dance, film and sound.

Synopsis: | Occupying a triangular site at the northern end of Swansea High Street, stands a three-storey Baroque red-brick building - a former Music Hall and Variety Theatre that has played host to the likes of Charlie Chaplin, Lillie Langtry and Marie Lloyd (and a few less illustrious acts including The Monopeds - a troupe of one-legged acrobats!). The Palace Theatre opened in 1888. It survived the blitz, became a temporary morgue, was the first venue in Wales to screen a silent movie, served as the setting of an Iris Gower trilogy and became a notorious gay nightclub in the early 80s. It is now sadly derelict and decaying. 120 years after its opening, we mark the occasion and draw attention to its fascinating past with a surreal homage that will re-examine and re-imagine its history. Interdisciplinary artist Marc Rees brings together two extraordinary performers and two brand new talents in a unique, strange and beguiling artwork. Threshold incorporates explorations from the dilapidated site; authentic artefacts; architectural musings; film footage; diary readings; decapitated Disco heads and adulterated high-energy dance anthems in an intriguing fusion of art installation and documentary-style performance.
