| Three sisters come together for one final remembrance of their dead father. As much younger women, they made a promise to each other, and it is time to lay their father, and their past lives, to rest. Barking Dogs is a poetic work of profound depth and complexity from an author who challenges the conventions of the traditional theatre and makes an important new contribution to Australian performance writing. With an introduction to the work of Norman Price by the director of the first production, Markus Wessendorf, this volume examines the familial and cultural inheritances embedded in the Australian psyche. | |||||

| Claire is in her old age, but you wouldn't know it. She sees herself so differently from her children, who have grown up to be mean and full of bile. The children descend upon the family home like carrion dogs to deal with the matter of their ageing mother once and for all. They have come to tear Claire and her world to pieces and feast upon the remains of her life and home. However, Claire has prepared a surprise party for them of Gothic proportions. Urban Dingoes is darkly comic, with a macabre twist at the end. Exorcism of the living, not the dead, an expiation of memory, and attachment are all explored in this deeply poetic play that continues the author's examination of the familial and cultural inheritances embedded in the Australian psyche. | |||||
