Italian born writer, she has been living in the UK since September 1995 and currently based in Hertfordshire. She started writing poetry at the young age of 8 and her artistic parents took her passion 'a bit' too serious and published a small pamphlet when she was 12 with her father's drawings. It is a passion that she has developed also in the UK where she now writes solely in English. She has adventured into the performance poetry circle with Apples & Snakes and the Furnace group (2004-2005) and published poems in magazines (Aesthetica, X magazines etc.). She started writing plays in 2001 training first at the Soho Theatre and then at the Royal Court. She has written plays for Hampstead Theatre (Generator project in 2004), Blue Elephant Theatre (Cavemen, 2005). She has recently published a novel in Italian Riflessioni di un viaggio - Journey Reflections- (Levante ed. 2007), which she co-wrote with her Mum, Addolorata Cagnazzo. The Wrong Sleep was performed at the Etcettera Theatre, London in August as part of the Camden Fringe Festival. She shares her writing career with an academic interest- she has been a visiting tutor in English Literature at Goldsmith College and finishing a PhD in Comparative Literature at SOAS

Synopsis: | A desolate town is shaken by a blast at its core. Suspicions abound, but its inhabitants should look inside where a stranger manipulates the society from within. This stranger is Janet, a young woman torn between Islam, Christianity and secularism. She is a victim of her confused childhood, of her sexuality and of her mental disarray. The Wrong Sleep tells the story of a woman plagued by insomnia, the demons in her mind and the demons of her past. It is during these sleepless nights that violence and religion lure her towards committing acts of terrifying brutality. Violence and sex are the only ways in which Janet feels she can communicate with the world. This surreal play is partly inspired by true events and explores the themes of religion, violence, female sexuality and obsession. | |||||
