Synopsis: | The culmination of four months of rehearsals involving 200 community performers aged from eight to 65 will celebrate the regeneration of one of Coventry's oldest streets on Easter Saturday (April 3rd). A site-specific production, Ostara will be performed on Far Gosford Street and will involve drummers, puppets, special effects and pyrotechnics as well as actors and dancers. The community performers have been working alongside professional artists from Imagineer Productions, Coventry performance group Highly Sprung and pyrotechnic company The World Famous. Birmingham writer Tanisjah Matthews has worked with the community to research Far Gosford Street's history and in Ostara she's woven fact and fiction together to celebrate the coming of the Spring Equinox. An audience of up to 5,000 is expected to witness the mythical character of Attis (played by Birmingham actor John Flitcroft) emerge from the Underworld on a huge mechanical chariot as he searches for the goddess Ostara. | |||||
