Joe Martin is the author of over 40 plays and adaptations for the stage, some of which are included in Conspiracies: Six Plays by Joe Martin. He is a two time recipient of Rockefeller Foundation grants (The US-Mexico Fund for Culture and a New Forms grant through Painted Bride) and two senior Fulbright fellowships, and has received multiple arts grants from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. He has translated and/or adapted for the stage Rumi's Mathnavi; Strindberg's A Dream Play, The Ghost Sonata and The Dance of Death; Jens Bjporneboe's Semmelweis;Buchner's Woyzeck; H.C. Anderson's The Match Girl's Snow Queen; and Schiller'sThe Robbers, among many others.
