Biography of Nikki Marett-Gregory

After school, I went into the Finance industry in Jersey where I stayed until dramatic events in my personal life made me take a total life changing career. In June 1995, I successfully gained a diploma in reflexology and took up the vocational job of Reflexologist full time from then until today. During these years, I trained as an adult educator and NVQ assessor, learnt and taught Indian Head massage as well as reflexology and have added a number of therapies to my bow along the way, running my own clinic for 7 years and visiting disabled MS sufferers (a particular interest of mine).As one can see, my background had nothing to do with theatre until 3 years ago, when I joined the Gilbert & Sullivan Society to be in HMS Pinafore. At that time, joined a local ladies choir to help with the demanding HMS singing and stayed for 6 months. I couldn't marry my new found love of singing with the outfit, left the choir and went on to teach myself singing to backing tracks. I earned myself 2 nights a week during the summer season of 2007 at our 5 star Hotel singing jazz standards. In December of 2006 I sang at a local jazz bar to help out a local composer who was launching her first CD. A chance conversation with a client in January of 2007 had me writing the storyline of NEXT! So you want the part? 3 days later! No it was never a life long ambition or anything like that. The story just appeared on paper from my hands. Even now it's a mystery to me. Anyway, back to my musicals birth. The composer and I stayed in touch, and one February day over lunch, I asked her if she wanted to write the music for my musical. She said yes, and that had me booking the Jersey Opera House! I now have 4 local composers! And to say I am excited would be an understatement. Sally Edmondson was the first composer from that lunch and the others that have since joined in are Andrew Fells (the shows Musical Director), Jaime Boylan (Elouise in the show) and Paul Le Claire (a local politician and Busker in the show) So, back to my production. I think the best thing about doing this show is the fact that I went into it with absolutely no knowledge about production or directing whatsoever! If I had even the slightest notion of how much work was involved I think I would have walked away! Thank God I did not, as I am having the best time of my life! I recommend it to everyone. You only have one life so whatever it is, do it. The joy of seeing all the different characters come to life in the hands of the cast, all amateurs and mostly totally new to the stage is phenomenal. I'm not just saying that. Come and see for yourself!
