Dead Certain

Charming and good looking but never more than a few steps from self-destruction, Michael is an out-of-work actor who was once on the verge of stardom. Elizabeth is a theatre-obsessed ex-dancer who is now wheelchair-bound and lives alone in a large country house. When she contacts Michael's agent and offers a large fee if Michael will visit her and act out a play she has written, he jumps at the chance. The evening appears to begin quite straightforwardly. But when they start to read Elizabeth's script, Michael is startled to find disturbing similarities to real life-including an apparent transcript of the first conversation they had when he arrived. How could she have possibly written that beforehand? Plying him with drink and using considerable cunning, she gradually manages to undermine his self-confidence, systematically causing him to doubt the reliability of his memory and even his own sanity. But why? What is in it for her, and what does fate have in store for them both? The suspense builds layer upon layer as this taut psychological thriller gathers speed at an alarming rate towards a gripping climax, where truth and illusion become almost inseparably entangled in a real life game of cat and mouse.
