David Lander lives in Tasmania. He gained a BFA (Hons.) from the University of Victoria, BC, Canada and has performed and directed professionally, and taught and lectured in drama and theatre. He has published poetry, stories and journalism and reviewed theatre for ABC Radio, Melbourne. He initiated and co-devised Its a Dad Thing which toured nationally. He directed three seasons of Its a Dad thing in Tasmania, one of which toured under the auspice of Tasmania Performs. His script Mate was produced recently in Hobart and Sydney. He studied film writing with Ranald Allan and playwrighting with Tim Daly and Tom Holloway. For some years, he served as Chair of the Australian Script Centre, Hobart.

Synopsis:

Russel Willoughby is preparing a table for himself and his wife, Georgia, in their beautiful Battery Point house. Georgia dashes in, desperately sorry that she is late for their anniversary celebration. Russel gives Georgia a spectacular ring. While Russel is buying champagne Ali and Trish enter to steal the stereo. Georgia discovers them and Ali assaults her. Georgia tries to negotiate a deal, but as they reach an agreement, Russel returns. Trish hides. Russel tries to throw Ali out. Ali overwhelms him, threatening both Georgia and Russel with a broken bottle. Trish and reveals that she and Russel are lovers. She produces a lavish parcel containing Russel's gift of clothes for Georgia and puts them on. They fit perfectly though the bodies of the two women are unalike. Trish reveals her fantasy of her future life with Russel - as his wife, in this house. Trish reveals that she and Russel are lovers. Georgia tries to leave. She tries again to get Ali on side but Trish regains the balance of power by revealing that Georgia had aborted their daughter, Emma. Trish asserts her triumph by sexually arousing Russel. Russel tries to end the invasion but Trish proves she is carrying his baby. He is delighted and appalled. He tries to strike a deal with Georgia, but she implores Ali to let her go. Ali agrees - if Georgia gives her the anniversary ring. Georgia assents and leaves. Ali leaves with the ring and stereo. Russel kneels before Trish and kisses her womb. Trish tells Russel how beautiful their new life will be. He weeps.
