Synopsis: "This is very theatrical - two people on a park bench." remarks one of the protagonists in the first of a double bill of one-act plays by Kevin Laffan. From the outset of The Condom Kid and the Lady. Laffan makes us aware that he knows this is a theatrically hackneyed situation which comes with its own set of expectations. The "kid" , product of a faulty condom, is a middle-aged actor and self-confessed failure who keeps speculating on how an audience would expect him to behave if this increasingly unlikely "chance" encounter were a play. The "lady" ( is a prostitute, hoping to confront the assailant who raped her in the park ten years ago. and protesting that what they're experiencing is real life.

Synopsis: middle-aged Norm invites old schoolfriend Merv to the local park for a chat. Norm wants to warn Merv that, because Merv has never come out of the closet, speculation about him has run riot and led to the local Residents' Association branding him as a suspected paedophile. Here again, Laffan tries to highlight the cruel inconsistencies of a society which has grown more tolerant of people's sexuality yet is less accepting of their privacy.
