Synopsis: | This collection of Fables includes . . . Loki Saves the Hammer - (5M, 1F, 1E) A hilarious farce about a magic hammer which protects Asgard, the home of the Teutonic Gods, from its enemy, the giant Jotuns. Thor, the King of the Gods, tosses his hammer into the woods every day, and it finds and splits the heads of the Jotuns, then magically floats back to him to toss again. One day Thor wakes up to find the hammer gone! The Myth of Creation - (13M, 10F) The imaginative and moving story of the creation of the world, as told in Hopi Native American culture. This version of the myth tells of God's dissatisfaction with humans and His destruction of the world leaving only a handful of creatures to start all over again - but in this version, the destruction happens twice over, with God's patient hope that humankind will finally get it right, as He originally imagined His creation in its perfection. The Golden Fish - (10M, 2F, 1E) A comic folk tale with a familiar and worthwhile lesson told by Russia's greatest poet, Alexander Pushkin, and here turned into a play for children and young adults. A poor fisherman who lives with his wife in an old, broken-down hut catches a remarkable fish - golden, verbal and magical - who promises him anything he desires if he will spare it and throw it back. His wish is modest, but his wife, learning of the golden fish, asks for more and more, and the patient fish obliges until she asks for one more thing - to be ruler of the sea and of the golden fish itself For her greed, she is granted something special. The Birth of Rama - (10M, 3F, 1E) The great Indian epic, the Ramayana, tells the story of the world's creation as the dream of the god Brahma - who exists beyond time and space. In the telling, there's stunning Indian pageantry of Gods of multiple faces, brilliantly colored masks and bodies, supernatural landscapes of unearthly beauty and war-ravaged fields of deadly horror | |||||
