Synopsis: | Nellie Tinder's For Artists Only is a subversive 21st century comedy of manners following three young female artists spending the summer doing battle at a New England country home. The work unfolds as a hyper-intimate performance pushed upstage and amplified, taking on a filmic quality. Jennie and Julia escape to a country house for the summer, only to find that life in New England feels more claustrophobic than rush hour on the L train. Culled from the paintings of Balthus, the music of Henry Purcell, the films of Truffaut, and the novels of D.H. Lawrence, For Artists Only is an intricate diorama of female friendship and the violence that lingers beneath its surface. | |||||
