Synopsis:

A Queens, New York, rock n roll quartet is hired by their former violinist, Richard Henrickson, to be a "bad rock group" in his Broadway production of The Great American Success, a musical play. The quartet are comedians in their own right and steal the show, which bombs on opening night. Never aware that they were hired by their "buddy" Richard because they were supposed to be terrible musicians, they return to their anonymous existence, rehearsing in a telephone-less abandoned bowling alley in Queens, never to learn that record companies want to offer them contracts. The play is a play within a play, a mirror image of itself, and, except for background music, employs music and lyrics in only real-life situations.

Notes:

written by Richard Henrickson, Ian Horvath and Dennis Nahat. Two versions, 35 minutes and 2 hours

Synopsis:

traces the history of rock from the SOs to the 80s. The setting is the late 60s Golden Age of Rock with flashbacks into the light hearted SOs and visions into the disillusioned future. The main character is a white-suited, red-vested, mustached Mephistopheles-style drug pusher, pimp, and devil who witnesses apathetically the progress and ultimate demise of rock. A brutal ending wherein a glitter rock star is murdered on a chrome "cross" by three male and two female punk rockers comments on the simultaneous seriousness and tongue-in-cheek humor of rock theater.
