Synopsis:
Verna Claiborne, her husband Aspen, and her cousin Jessamine, have fled New York because Aspen has embezzled their money in his brokerage firm. They escape to a luxurious tropical beach hotel where the unreal atmosphere highlights the hollowness of their lives and the suffering beneath comic facades. Verna longs for love and freedom, meets a man who might be a potential lover/rescuer; he turns out to be a private eye. Impending death from a hurricane startles Verna into awareness, but leaves the others unmoved.
