Notes: Doracha Mór and the Gweedore Sailors sprang into life following a writer's residency in 2007 at a Donegal school in the Irish Gaeltacht. Thanks to the children and staff at Scoil Chonaill, Bunbeag, Co. Donegal, who commissioned and produced the play locally in Donegal, at the Ulster finals and at the All Ireland finals in the Arts Centre, Mullingar in 2008. | ||||
Synopsis: When the schoolchildren from Bunbeg, Gweedore in Co. Donegal learn about sailing ships, they decide to set sail on the Jeanie Johnston. After a storm at sea some of the sailors are thrown to the bottom of the sea where they encounter the Monster of the Deep (Doracha Mór) Meanwhile their friends manage to swim to a nearby island. After many adventures the local Lifeboat Service comes to the rescue and all ends happily for the sailors, their teacher and parents. | ||||
