Several years ago (actually more than I'd like to admit) while I was pursuing an acting/directing career, I took a summer to write three plays that were subsequently published by Samuel French ("The Legacy," "Perspective") and Dramatic Publishing ("Ledge, Ledger and the Legend"). That led to a move to Los Angeles and writing screenplays which were also optioned and/or produced: Singapore Plus (HBO/ Francis Ford Coppola), House That Half Jack Built (CBS) Fangs (MM Productions), Maelstrom Complex (MM&D), Dial Tones (Robert Aldrich Prod. VITT), Night Screams (ABA), So Beautiful to Me (Taft/Sun Classics), Captive (Buzz Kulick Productions), Carnaba (Isom/Cox), and Maximillian (O. Atlas Enterprises). For television I wrote, produced and/or directed over 45 shows from syndicated musical variety series to network musical variety specials. (Dolly Show, Donny & Marie, Marty Robbin's Spotlight, Dick Van Dyke Comedy Hour). Then two things happened. Musical variety died and I turned 45. . .that magical age in television where age matters. So I moved on to writing/ producing/ and directing live stage shows for theme parks like Disneyland, DisneyWorld, EuroDisney, AstroWorld, Boblo Island and Sanrio Puroland in Japan. From there it seemed a natural step into corporate productions and for the last thirteen years, I've produced and directed everything from multimillion dollar press launches for companies like HP, Microsoft, MCA/Universal, Disney and Buena Vista to huge week-long events for companies like Shaklee, Merle Norman, MONY, AXA Financial, AMD, Countrywide, United Airlines, Cookie Lee, Baxter Healthcare, Toshiba, FreeLife, RadioShack and Neutrogena. A year ago I finally stepped away completely to return to writing full time for the stage.

Synopsis:

Now, more than ever, we understand that history is only as accurate as the stories that are passed from mouth to mouth. Even lies, if told long enough, become truths. Fame and infamy are only frames of reference for the tellers and realities can forever be changed by the mighty power of interpretation and agenda. Even written documents can and have been altered to fit what is politically correct for its time. What is the truth? A man and a woman died. Why? That is the story of Dula?

Notes:

This play deals with serious challenges facing today's family structure, but it is also very, very funny and should have your audience laughing, crying and most of all, understanding those dynamics of any family that can either strengthen it or destroy it.

Synopsis:

For sixteen year old Tyler Burnett, it was hard enough just being a teenager, without being suddenly forced to share his bedroom with his dying eighty year old grandfather, a man's who seems to have based his entire life on making others miserable. Trapped together in a room barely big enough for one boy's dream, these generational adversaries who fight to hold onto their own beliefs about themselves eventually are forced into a truce of tolerance, but there is always an underlying waiting for one or the other to show a weakness. Tyler and his grandfather had been sharing their room for over a month and had moved from total dislike to a pretty fair but often heated exchange of ideas. . .only on one occasion, what starts out as a discussion of Tyler's father and James' son gets out of hand and as each man's temper flairs, lives are changed forever. This is a story of a family in crisis. . .a story of life, death and some secrets that need to be told. For it's only in the telling that anyone has a chance of truly "Finding the Burnett Heart."
