Jonathan Dorf has had his plays produced throughout the United States and Canada, as well as in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia. He has been a finalist for the Actors Theatre of Louisville Heideman Award, the Weinberger Playwright Residency, the Charlotte Repertory New Play Festival, and the InterAct New Play Festival. His work has been seen at Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey, Ensemble Studio Theatre - LA, Moving Arts, and the Pittsburgh New Works Festival, and he has had plays for young people commissioned by the Walnut Street Theatre and the Choate Rosemary Hall Summer Arts Conservatory, where he served as playwright-in-residence for three years. His plays include Ben, Bookends, Shining Sea, Milk and Cookies, Beef Junkies, Supermodels in Jeopardy, and Neverland,while such works as From Shakespeare With Love?, Now You See Me, Dear Chuck, War of the Buttons (freely adapted from the novel), and Day One (a musical) were created specifically for school-age actors and audiences. A number of his monologues are published in collections by Meriwether and Smith & Kraus, and his published plays make their homes at Playscripts, Inc., Brooklyn Publishers, Eldridge Publishing, and Original Works. He is the author of the book Young Playwrights 101, a complete playwriting resource for young playwrights and those who teach them. Resident playwriting expert for Final Draft (for whose software he created the playwriting "Ask the Expert") and The Writers Store (author of Playwriting101.com and playwriting instructor at Writers University), Mr. Dorf has also served as Visiting Associate Professor of Theatre in the graduate playwriting program at Hollins University, and as the United States cultural envoy to Barbados. He is the co-chair of the Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights and a life member and former managing director of the Philadelphia Dramatists Center, as well as a member of the Dramatists Guild of America and a resident playwright for Wilmington, Delaware's City Theater Company. He holds a BA in Dramatic Writing and Literature from Harvard University and an MFA in Playwriting from UCLA, and works with playwrights and screenwriters across the country as a script consultant. He has been a guest artist at the International Thespian Festival, the Tennessee Arts Academy, as well as at a number of state conferences, and is available for playwriting workshops and residencies at schools worldwide through his YoungPlaywrights101.com website.

Synopsis: | Four of the Bard's characters wait for an overdue flight to London. When Romeo reveals that he plans to revenge himself upon Shakespeare, who he blames for ruining his life, by killing him in a duel. The others-Titania, Viola and Antipholus-try to save Shakespeare by convincing Romeo that Shakespeare "does indeed love love." To do so, they recall scenes (excerpts from the actual Shakespearean plays) that show Shakespeare's playful side. Titania, for example, falls in love with Bottom (who wears the donkey head) after Oberon, her estranged husband, enchants her. Antipholus shows Romeo the confusion that occurs when he is mistaken for his twin brother-by his brother's wife. Viola dressed as a man, must carry a Duke's message of love to another woman-even though Viola has fallen in love with the Duke herself. When he gets in return a book with blank pages, he believes it to be an error. Nancy, the store owner and about Robert's age, supplies him with another book, this one also blank. Even as Robert protests, satisfied and willfully oblivious Customers come in to trade for more blank books. Finally, Robert fights back: armed with pens and ultimately a typewriter, he occupies the store and recreates-to the best of his recollection-the classic novels that Nancy and her college-age nephew, Toto, have been disemboweling and replacing with white pages. | |||||

He remembers creating his character, their first matches, the arrival of fans and new wrestlers-and he begins to see where it all began to spiral out of control, with the fans demanding crazier, more violent matches and him liking the attention.
