| The period 1939-45 saw the East of England bracing itself against the threat of invasion and transforming itself to meet the demands of a nation at war. As everyone became swept up in the preparations many found themselves in fresh occupations or strange parts of the country. It was a time for new friends, new responsibilities and new experiences. Above all it was a time for music: from singing in the shelter to whistling in the dark; from dance bands in the local hall to Workers Playtime. ON THE HOME FRONT clocks up over 100 performances, and it becomes our most successful show so far. It also gives us our first review in The Guardian. | |||||

Notes: | Ivan Cutting, the farmworkers, and the Company, music by Pat Whymark | |||||
| THE REAPERS YEAR celebrates the harvest and recreating the characters and customs of a bygone world - all drawn from the accounts of the men and women that did the work. But behind the rural mask lies another story: the long and painful struggle of the farmworker to improve his condition and take his place in the modern world. And 100 years ago this autumn the agricultural labourer won the right to vote, so it's time for a double celebration at the village 'frolic', 'horkey' or 'supper' - call it what you will - just come along and join in the fun. | |||||

| A musical celebration of the great Lowestoft Herring Fishery. The result of thorough research the show is based on the reminiscences of the driftermen themselves, and using music both new and traditional, it captures the living spirit of the fishing port and the men and women who worked it. | |||||
