This former architect was born and raised in West Hartford, Connecticut. After receiving his BS in that discipline from Rhode Island School of Design and after a decade-long career as an architectural acoutics consultant, he was encouraged by several theatre professionals to launch a new career as a playwright. Among those who influenced him in that decision was Katharine Hepburn. Mr. Crabtree is a member of The Dramatists' Guild, has served on the faculty of the Newton Arts Center arid is scheduled to be a Visiting Lecturer at Boston's Wentworth University. He earns what he likes to call "bread and butter money" as an essayist and these pieces on the arts, on food and on politics have appeared in "The Christian Science Monitor," the Boston "Globe" magazine, "Bay Window," "On Stage," and other Boston area publications.
