| Notes: | This play was written to fill the void left in the complete story of Jesus Christ, as illustrated in the films, "Jesus of Nazareth" and recently, "The Passion of the Christ". These movies were effective in presenting the life of Jesus Christ and his teachings but fell short in portraying and exploring the post crucifixion era. (i.e. the profound story of Jesus' Resurrection and ministry with his apostles that became the nucleus of the Roman Catholic Church, as we know it today.) | |||||
| Synopsis: | The story line picks up right after the crucifixion on Easter Sunday morning with the discovery of the empty tomb by the Roman Soldiers. Word spreads throughout Jerusalem despite the Sanhedrin's attempt to quell the Good News that Christ is risen. Jesus appears to some of His followers but His core group of disciples who are in hiding remain skeptical even after hearing the accounts of others close to them. They are scared and emotionally bankrupt because of their waning faith. Jesus eventually appears to His disciples who initially react with fear which is later displaced by great joy. Beginning with the old testament, Jesus opens up the scriptures to them, including the meaning of suffering with great clarity, and His role in the fruition of the scriptures. The precious gift of the Holy Spirit is then poured out on the Apostles whose ministries eventually take them to different lands. These events constitute the most profound and epic Love story ever written throughout humanity. It is a story of "Agape" (unconditional love) & Salvation for all of mankind that shaped the lives of Jesus' apostles and early followers, who became the nucleus of the Church as we know it today. | |||||
