Anita Chandwaney is an actress, playwright and director. Her first full-length play Gandhi Marg won 2nd place in the 75th Annual Writers Digest Stage Play Competition. Its world premiere staged reading was produced by Chicago's Rasaka Theatre Company in December, 2003 and by Toronto's Rasikarts in October, 2006. Of her short plays, Judging Jaya is part of "Desi Women of the Diaspora" at the 2007 Kriti Festival; and Success and the City was seen with The 24 Hour Project. She directed Rasaka's staged reading of Tanika Gupta's The Waiting Room and a staged reading of Gitanjali Kapila's screenplay Double Happiness, at Silk Road Theatre Project. As an actress she appeared the Pulitzer Finalist, Miss Witherspoon by Christopher Durang. In Chicago she's also worked with Lookingglass, Organic, Pegasus, Collaboraction, Live, Center Theatre and Rasaka - for which she was Founding Executive Director and co-producer of the Jeff Citation-winning The Masrayana. In NYC she worked with Ensemble Studio Theatre, Playwright's Horizons and Open Eye New Stagings. She's a 20 year working member of the American Federation of Television & Radio Artists and the Screen Actors Guild.

Synopsis: | Gandhi Marg is inspired by Tennessee Williams "A Streetcar Named Desire". All the characters' ancestry hails from India, except Vinod O'Doul, who is half-Irish. The action takes place in Shardul and Shanti's small one-bedroom on Chicago's Devon Avenue, officially dubbed 'Gandhi Marg' by the City of Chicago. Shanti and Shardul are newlyweds deeply in love. Shanti's sister, Bina, arrives and the past charges into the present and affects the futures of everyone involved. | |||||
