Synopsis: | This is a musical revue with Monologues, and not a standard book musical. The Monologues are more like character-based stand-up comedy than they are like The Vagina Monologues. The spirit of the piece is akin to "When Pigs Fly" with plus-size singing actors sharing with the audience a wide (no pun intended) variety of experiences from the world of Living Large. There is a long arc to the show, as it moves both the actors and the audience from "Bloated" to "Lighter", from fat pets to fat love to loving life, whatever your size. Audiences have been known to form spontaneous support groups in the lobby after the show, and it leaves people feeling good about themselves (sometimes for the first time in years).

Set in present-day Boston, The Maternal Instinct begins with a birthday party for Lillian, an MIT professor whose research in the maternal instincts of mice is about to pay off and make her and her boss, Fred, very big names in biochemistry. Lillian's sister, Emma, has a special birthday gift; she will pay for a sperm donor so that Lillian's spouse, Sarah, can have a baby. Sarah has been feeling a desire to have a baby, as though someone flicked a switch deep inside of her. But even though Lillian loves children, she finds a reason to reject this "present": she is worried a sperm donor might have secret swimming around in his DNA, and as a scientist who knows the importance of genetics, she won't take the risk. It becomes clear the marriage of Sarah and Lillian is in jeapordy if Sarah can't fulfill her maternal desire. So while Lillian is away at a conference, Sarah and Emma decide that Fred, Lillian's best friend, would make the perfect donor
