After obtaining Honours degree in. history at Bristol, John Atkins worked for Mass Observation and on Tribune as Literary Editor before he accepted positions as teacher of English as a foreign language in Sudan and Libya. He later served as docent in English Literature at Lodz University in Poland. Mr. Atkins has authored a score of books, mainly studies in modern literature. His subjects include Hemingway, Orwell, Greene, and Priestley as well as a work on British spy fiction. Six of his plays have been produced and his was the winning entry in the Brentwood Arts Festiva1 One Act Play Competition in 1980
