1 - The Playwrights' Centre >>>
The Playwrights' Center, "the biggest and most innovative center for playwrights in America," (Michael Bigelow Dixon) fuels the theater by providing services that support playwrights and playwriting. America's only national educational and developmental program for playwrights, Center membership is available for an affordable $40-75 a year to anyone who wishes to join. Benefits of membership include free roundtable readings, online columns and discussion areas, classes and other opportunities. The Center was founded in 1971 and has put $10 million into the pockets of 5,000 playwrights since then. Through the McKnight and Jerome Foundations and others, The Center awards over $500,000 each year in residencies, commissions, contest prizes and development funds. About a dozen college theater residencies are facilitated each year for Core member writers through the national New Plays On Campus program. The Center commissions a playwright of national significance annually through the Playwrights' Center McKnight Commission and Residency program. A world-class lab flies Core writers and their collaborators to Minneapolis for playwright-driven workshops, readings, showcases and festivals. Hundreds of theaters nationwide rely on the Center's expertise in putting new work through R&D rigors. "One of the nation's most prestigious developmental festivals," the renowned PlayLabs Festival spans two weeks in summer and culminates in public readings. In recent years, PlayLabs has developed the work of writers like Lee Blessing, Lisa D'Amour, Lonnie Carter, Jordan Harrison, Sherry Kramer, and dozens of others. The festival draws an audience of artistic directors from across the US, prospecting for new plays. 75% of PlayLabs plays go on to receive full production elsewhere. The Center is home to a major 6-playwright exchange with the Tokyo International Festival that brings Japanese and American dramatists through foreign translation and development experiences.

Austin Acting Workshop >>>
The Austin Acting Workshop was originally conceived to elucidate a technique of acting that could be practically applied to any given text. It quickly became about discerning the objective and easily-manipulated tools found in effective acting and utilizing them to present text effectively. Any text. Every text. If you're reading this, and you're interested in being the most effective actor it's possible for you to be, you'll learn how to do that in the workshop, and you'll learn how to do it relatively quickly. Of course, you must be willing to work. Work is the key. In fact, should you attend, I think you, like almost every other attendee, will find the work is its own reward.

dramabiz.com >>>
Dramabiz is the best theatre magazine I have ever read. When I read the first issue, I thought "a theatre magazine for the rest of us" You also might subtitle it "what works and what doesn't". Going from melodrama in Arizona to Las Vegas to Broadway without the "class distinctions" is so refreshing. If our theatre schools taught the stuff I am learning from your magazine, we would have ten times the amount of live theatre in this country. Keep up the great work. - TimBen Boydston, Executive and Artistic Director,Canyon Theatre Guild
