| | | queerupnorth >>> | queerupnorth is the largest and most significant producer and presenter of queer arts in Europe and the only organisation of its kind in the UK. Established in 1992, queerupnorth was the country's first queer arts festival and took form as a sense of excitement was emerging around queer culture in Manchester in the early nineties. Flesh, the Hacienda's legendary queer club night, was at its height, and Canal Street was undergoing the first stages of regeneration which would transform it into the country's first and largest Lesbian and Gay Village. Queer was more of an attitude than an identity; it was new and radical, and Manchester was the place to be. |
