| Based on the ancient text of The Book of One Thousand and One Nights, The Arabian Nights is a story of stories, a collection of Arabic tales woven together into a theatrical experience. There once was a king called Shahryr, who one night found his wife in the arms of a slave, begins the chorus of the play. The world darkened for him, his soul grew sick, and he killed them both on the carpet of the bed. The Arabian Nights addresses topics of war, justice, prejudice, and gender issues. The John Jay College production of The Arabian Nights consists of a cast [of students] that reflects the multi-ethnic, multi-generational character of our campus. | |||||

Synopsis: | Jason's quest for the Golden Fleece. Before Aristotle, before The Iliad, a thousand years before the birth of Christ, we were these people: vain, ambitious, passionate, heroic, cowardly, treacherous, capable of great valor and generosity of spirit, and willing to risk life and treasure to obtain something of trivial intrinsic value. Sound familiar? | |||||
