Genevieve Yates is a GP and medical educator in the Noosa Hinterland and conducts teaching sessions for doctors all over Australia. In 2010 she was awarded the Arts and Health Australia Awards for Excellence: Medical Humanities and Education award and nominated for National Medical Educator of the Year . When she is not healing the sick or teaching the healers, Genevieve likes to indulge in a range of creative pursuits including theatre, music, film and writing. She has worked in front of and behind the camera in film and TV (she was the governess on the ABCs series Outback House in 2005), and has performed on stage in several local plays and musical productions. She teaches violin, plays piano and sings. Shes had several of her short stories published, winning two national short story competitions (in 2008 and 2010). She is a regular columnist for the medical newspaper, Australian Doctor, writing humorous editorials for their The Last Word column. She wrote, directed and acted in an educational film which was released nationally in May 2009, and has written an adult fiction novel, Silver Linings. Her debut as a playwright and director was in May 2010 with a local production of Adam and Eve. Her full length comedy, Death by Sausage, was performed in several venues around South East Queensland in August, 2010 before having a highly successful two week season in Nambour in October, 2010. She was placed 5th and 6th in the MAID2 PLAY Dogwood Playwrights Initiative 2010.

Synopsis: | Adam and Eve is a love story. Eve, a studious final year medical student, meets Adam, a lovable larrikin from outback Queensland, in the medical school library at the Royal Brisbane Hospital in 1999. The attraction is immediate and they soon find themselves caught up in a whirlwind romance. Unfortunately, their relationship is complicated by Adam's long and difficult battle with testicular cancer& a battle which Adam ultimately loses in November 2000. The play is based on the true story of the playwright's boyfriend, Adam, who died of testicular cancer at the age of 22. Special attention has been paid to keeping the details as historically accurate as possible. The names of people and places have not been altered. | |||||
