Genre: | play in two scenes Play/Drama
| Parts: | Male | - | Female | - | ||
Parts other: | - | |||||
Notes: | - | |||||
Synopsis: | Colin Wilson's first published play was written in 1965 but remained in manuscript until 1970. On September 15, 1971 it was performed as Pictures in a Bath of Acid at the Leeds Playhouse, starring Alfred Burke as Strindberg. It played as Strindberg: A Psychological Portrait in New York three years later and again in 1975 as Strindberg: A Fool's Decision. In that same year a production was staged by the Mercury Theatre Company in London under the combined title of Strindberg or Pictures in a Bath of Acid. As fascinating to read as to see in production, the play succeeds in presenting a psychological portrait of one the most original and intriguing figures of modern literature. Skilfully using techniques derived from Strindberg's own plays, Wilson has created a uniquely challenging role for any actor. It is hoped that this reprint will inspire a new generation of actors and directors to once again take up that challenge. Out of print for many years, this reprint includes a new introduction by the author. Paper. iii, 96p., £9.95. ISBN: 9780946650910. Paupers' Press, 37 Quayside Close, Trent Bridge, Nottingham NG2 3BP, United Kingdom.
