Synopsis:

Inspired in part by Nina Simone's classic song 'Four Women', Peachesunflinchingly tackles the stereotyping of African American female identity considering both academic and pop-culture discourse on 'Blackness'. Spanning time from slavery to the present, the performance aims to deepen the identity of the woman who has ever been simplified, stereotyped or called 'Peaches', an 'angry' one. With soulful music and poetic essay, Peaches blends elements of traditional and non-traditional theatre to present a rich, complicated portrait of Black female experiences in America.
