Synopsis:

1929. A young girl from a small town in Mississippi travels to New Jersey to be with her fiance. She does not really love him but the marriage will make her financially comfortable. At a speakeasy one night an opera singer chats her up and they go back to his apartment. They make love - but then he goes off and sleeps in another room. The fiance turns up and gets the brush-off. A kindly judge intervenes between the young girl and the opera singer. They declare their love and prepare to get married
