Robert Soroka was born in Montreal and grew up in the multi-ethnic, multi-cultural district of Cote des Neiges. After earning a Bachelor of Commerce (McGill University) and an MBA (Concordia University), he accumulated several years of industrial experience. At the same time, he started teaching at the university and college levels. Within two years he was an active faculty member at 4 universities and 6 colleges, and made teaching his full time pursuit. Looking for an even greater challenge, Soroka earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree (State University of New York), and briefly worked as a criminal attorney for the City of Buffalo. Returning to Canada, Soroka resumed his teaching career, earning the prestigious Distinguished Teaching Award at Concordia University. About the same time, he became a media personality, first as the "Consumer Cop" on CFCF television's Montreal Today, and then on Global TV's This Morning Live, while hosting his own radio talk show. Soroka has since made over 1,000 television and radio appearances both nationally and locally. Soroka's theatre career began rather inconspicuously, after winning a part in a play produced by Montreal's venerable theatre company, the Lakeshore Players. The experience ignited a passion that stimulated Soroka to immerse himself in various aspects of theatre, primarily studying acting. During another production in which he had a small role, Soroka started bringing his laptop to rehearsals, deciding to make good use of his time while waiting for his scenes. Thesis of Life was the result and has been produced three times. A playwright was born. . .To date, all of Soroka's plays have been produced and performed for appreciative audiences. Soroka has earned a strong reputation for creating both witty and moving dialogue, and his work has been favourably compared to Canadian playwright Norm Foster.
