Notes: | A one-act adaptation of Alfred Jarry's "Ubu Roi" that runs one hour, condensing and updating the original. Available in print and ebook format at: www.lulu.com and ww.amazon.com | |||||
| A cartoon version of Macbeth in many ways, "Ubu Roi" is cited as starting modern art as we know it when it first opened in 1898, provoking a riot that halted the production for three hours before it resumed. Today, the fact that it is too long and boring in its constant repletion dulls the impact that this work had on the world at the time. "UBU IS KING!" gives you the original plot, characters, and sensibility in a compact, fast-paced, and hilarious satirical form. Great reviews. Currently in is sixth printing. In an interesting proof of its fidelity to the tone of the original, "UBU IS KING!" was famously tossed out of Grand Central Station for alleged public obscenity, returning in triumph for a long and well-loved run there. This is the play of which William Bulter Yeats said, "What more is possible? After us the Savage God." "UBU IS KING!" has enjoyed successful production around the world, and seems to be a particular favorite at drama schools. | |||||
