For six years Celia has been writing to Mortimer Duke - a Canadian. He has proposed to her by mail and is coming over from Canada. However, Mortimer is married and is a lot older than he led Celia to believe in his letters. The photograph he sent was on a younger employee Gerald. Mortimer sends Gerald in his place and tells him to get out of the marriage which he tries to do by being obnoxious. Then Mortimer comes over - his divorce has come through. Celia has had gifts of furs and jewels and a £200 from Mortimer. A wedding has been arranged and Mortimer, Gerald and the Brigadier all turn up wanting to be the bridegroom.
