Adapted form the novel by Francis Brett Young. This play had problems with the Lord Chamberlain's Office - the official play censors. Originally Salvatore was a kept man. He went off to America with an older American man - changed to woman in the play as performed - and returned when s/he died. He then moved in with Ludovic. In the play as performed, to run the estate and look after Ludovic as he became more and more frail. Originally he was obviously more to Ludovic than an employee. Ludovic's all male "parties" were also changed to mixed cocktail parties.

Synopsis:

When Ludovic dies at his Italian estate his two surviving relatives arrive to claim their inheritance. The estate had previously belonged to Salvatore's family. Salvatore had worked for Ludovic and had expected to inherit the estate but when this is proved not to be the case he turns his attentions to the two women to try and wheedle the estate somehow from them.
